If you have a library card in Iowa, you have a fabulous perk that you might not even know about! The Library Adventure Pass allows public library card holders in good standing to reserve free passes to area attractions.

What is the Library Adventure Pass Program?

This is a partnership between participating Iowa public libraries and museums, parks, and other attractions. It is a special avenue for libraries to expand access to knowledge, information, and learning for their patrons through an online reservation system and also an excellent way for community partners to share what they have to offer with a broader audience.

Each pass is a one day pass to a specific area attraction and is for up to two adults and two children. Library card holders in good standing (without a past due balance) can reserve a free pass to each area attraction once every 365 days.

Any adult library patron may borrow a pass to enjoy an educational day of family fun. Passes are available 24/7 through each library’s website and reservations can be made up to 90 days in advance.

While available free admission passes through the Library Adventure Pass program may vary, some of the attractions on the Library Adventure Pass can include:

    • African American Museum of Iowa
    • Blank Park Zoo
    • Brenton Skating Plaza (seasonal)
    • Des Moines Children’s Museum
    • Figge Art Museum
    • Greater Des Moines Botanical Garden
    • Grout Museum District Building
    • LaunchPAD Children’s Museum
    • Quad Cities Fun Bundle
    • Reiman Gardens
    • Science Center of Iowa

Once you reserve the Library Adventure Pass for attraction, you will be able to visit the attraction with the permitted number of guests using your printed ticket and a valid photo ID. The Adventure Pass must be printed and given to the attraction as a printed pass (A digital copy presented on a phone or other digital device will not be accepted).

If your family is larger than the four guests, you can still use the pass to receive admission for free for four, and then just purchase tickets for the additional family members.

While passes cannot be used for special member events, you can use them to get free admission to the family attractions.

If you are unable to use the pass that you reserved, cancel your reservation with your local library to allow them to make the pass available for other families. To cancel the pass you reserved, contact your local library. Reservations may be cancelled through the library up to the day before their reservation.

Because attraction hours may be limited due to the current pandemic, be sure to check the attraction’s website and open dates before you reserve your pass. Some attractions may not be available on the Library Adventure Pass at this time and availability may vary by library locations.

Area attractions may also be requiring masks and other social distancing guidelines due to current health conditions. Contact the attractions directly or visit their website for more details.

To reserve the Library Adventure Pass for your family, check your local library’s website or view availability at all libraries here.
