Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, police and the Horry County, South Carolina, coroner's office reported April 15 that a Hendersonville man died after falling six stories from a hotel while fleeing gunshots.

In an April 15 email to the Times-News, Horry County chief Deputy Coroner Tamara Willard said Jorge Orellana, 27, died from "massive" upper body trauma at 6:08 a.m. April 14 at the Grand Strand Regional Medical Center. Willard said Orellana fell as he was fleeing gunshots from a room on the sixth floor of Hotel Blue at approximately 1:30 a.m.

The Myrtle Beach Police Department reported on social media that officers responded to Hotel Blue on South Ocean Boulevard for gunshots being fired in the early morning hours of April 14.

"The investigation revealed a disturbance led to several shots being fired inside the room, but nobody was injured. As the participants of the disturbance were attempting to leave the room, one of the males exited through the balcony and was seen attempting to climb down the rear of the building. The male fell to the ground before reaching the fifth floor," the Facebook post said.

Police said in the post that all of the participants have been identified, and the firearm has been recovered. The incident is still under investigation. Anyone with additional information is asked to call 843-918-1382 and reference case number 24-006574.
