Hottest day of the year so far is officially upon us!
Tuesday is going to be the hottest day of 2024, so far!. High temperatures will sit in the low 90s today with muggy conditions. The good news is, we will keep plenty of beautiful sunshine, the bad new is, we won't have much of a breeze at all to cool us off.
Dropping off petition
CHARLESTON – Steve Williams, the mayor of Huntington and the Democratic nominee for governor of West Virginia, stopped by the State Capitol Building Monday to drop off petitions for a constitutional amendment for reproductive rights. He also denied rumors being spread that he would drop out of the race.

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) - A foggy start to the morning will not ruin the day, temperatures are projected to reach into the high 80s for the afternoon highs. Sunscreen is a must over the next few days. Not only will we reach the high 80s today, but also for Tuesday and Wednesday. All 3 days, we will see a lot of sunshine thanks to an area of high pressure that will sit over the region. However, rain chances do roll in we we go throughout the evening hours on Wednesday.

Afternoon highs to start the week are peaking in the upper 80s at local airports (where we keep the official highs while downtown readings are touching 90 as the urban heat island makes it hotter by a few degrees.

Among the big events on the docket, the US Nationals for cyclists in Charleston, the Armed Forces Day Parade in South Charleston and the 2nd annual Taco Festival in Huntington. While the West Virginia State high school track and field meet goes rain or shine starting Friday, some delays due to lightning are possible in the evening. Both Kentucky and Ohio state Track and Field meets are next weekend. Turns out many outdoor events will be played in the rain.
Autism Training Center names Marshall alumna as director of campus-based services
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WV News) — The West Virginia Autism Training Center at Marshall University has named Mindy Thornton as the new director of campus-based services. In the position, Thornton will oversee the individualized academic, social and independent living supports for students diagnosed with autism who are enrolled in the program.
Paving project begins on Route 34 in Teays Valley
TEAYS VALLEY, W.Va. (WSAZ) - A project to repave a busy section of state Route 34 in Teays Valley got underway Monday night. All five lanes are being repaved between the areas of Mountain View Elementary and the Stone Gate subdivision, the Hurricane mayor says. The project is expected to last two to three weeks.
Collaboration Between WVSOM and Marshall University Will Allow Medical Students to Earn Dual D.O./MPH Degree
LEWISBURG, W.Va. — Students at the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine (WVSOM) will soon have the opportunity to earn a Master of Public Health degree (MPH) while completing their osteopathic medical education. WVSOM has entered into a partnership with Marshall University that will allow the medical school’s students to supplement their Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) degree with an MPH degree through a program that lasts a total of five years.
