Forestburg coach retiring
Eldon Van Hooser is leaving Forestburg better than he found it. The head boy’s basketball coach is retiring after more than 30 years, spending the last five at Forestburg. Van Hooser did not come to this decision because of a lack of fire or feeling tired after decades in the profession. He had to for family reasons.
Pirates sweep Hornets
It didn’t take long for the No. 1 Collinsville Pirates to dispatch Cooke County rival Muenster. Just 12 innings to be exact. Collinsville (33-2) extended its winning streak to 31 games with a two-game sweep of Muenster last week in the area round of the Class 2A state baseball playoffs at Denton High School. The Pirates won by scores of 9-2 and 11-1, respectively. They face Sam Rayburn in a one-game affair at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Z-Plex in Melissa.

No. 5-ranked Sanger faced plenty of challenges throughout Saturday's softball playoff doubleheader against No. 6 Dumas, but found a way to win Game 3 of the series and advance to its first regional final since 2001.
