Finance Board wants answers for budget deficit increase
Burlington Mayor Emma Mulvaney-Stanak updated the city’s Board of Finance on the budget deficit Monday. Most Burlington residents, including City Councilors and Finance Board members, were under the impression that the city’s budget deficit was roughly $9 million, as estimated in December 2023. The budget deficit is estimated at roughly $13 million as of April 2024.
Pro-Palestinian protests spread to two Vermont colleges
Two of Vermont’s most renowned academic institutions are now the sites of protests, joining the growing movement of pro-Palestinian sentiment on college campuses. Pro-Palestinian demonstrators have set up tent encampments at the University of Vermont and Middlebury College, calling for action against Israel’s actions in Gaza, and any complicity their schools might have in the matter.

CVU baseball, Rice softball win in busy day on the diamond
The reigning DI baseball champion CVU Redhawks relied on tremendous pitching and offense from Aaron Larose to beat Rice Memorial 8-4. The Rice softball team continued their hot start to the season by beating CVU 14-8.
Play of the Week Winner: Saranac’s Desiree Jean Pierre
The play of the week was a doozy as Saranac’s McKenna Brown escaped pressure in the backfield and tossed the ball to Desiree Jean Pierre for a catch while already sprawled on the turf. Saranac flag football won the game.
Frechette Shuts Down Cougs in Peru Win
