District play heating up for area soccer teams
Norman North soccer hosted its final home game of the regular season on Friday and picked up a pair of district wins over Putnam City North. The Norman North girls won 10-0 over the Panthers, picking up their sixth shutout win of the season. The Timberwolves are in a three-way tie for first place in District 6A-3 along with Yukon and Owasso.
Redskins Take Two at Woodward
It was a good week for Redskin baseball. LHS finishes the week 3-0 after sweeping the Woodward Boomers 14-7 and 10-0 at Woodward High School Friday afternoon and evening. In game one, the Redskin bats saved the game as the defense sputtered with seven errors. After an Adan Mato two RBI single up the middle, LHS led 3-1 going to the bottom of the fourth before the Redskin defense fell apart allowing five runs for a 6-3 Boomer lead. Marco Alonso slammed a home run to left center in the fifth to make it 6-4. A Brooks Kappelmann triple off the wall in right tied the game 6-6 before a Zayden Martinez single scored Kappelmann and gave the Redskins a 7-6 lead they would not relinquish. The Redskins finished strongly with five in the sixth and seventh. Zayden Martinez pitched three innings without allowing an earned run. Marco Alonso pitched four innings without allowing an earned run with five strikeouts and two walks. Brooks Kapppelmann was 2-3 with two triples, four RBI’s, and two runs. Zayden Martinez was 2-5 with two RBI’s and two runs. Marco Alonso was 2-5 with the home run. Erek Lira was 2-3 with two doubles, three RBI’s, and two runs. Liberal out-hit the Boomers 11-1 while committing seven errors. WHS had five errors.
