Texas high school QB reinstated after stunning UIL reversal
After being ruled ineligible for the rest of his junior season on Sept. 25, Lewisville (TX) quarterback Laykon Brassfield received much better news Thursday in a shocking move by the University Interscholastic League. Brassfield's eligibility was granted by a unanimous 6-0 vote from the UIL executive committee , according to a report from Greg Riddle of The Dallas Morning News. The 5-6A district executive committee originally voted 7-0 against Brassfield in September, at a meeting held over a dual-residency issue. That committee then ruled that Brassfield's residence did not meet the UIL's residency criteria for Lewisville High School or Lewisville ISD. The report noted that the original DEC meeting was held because Brassfield's parents had been associated with an apartment in Lewisville and a lease in Argyle. Brassfield's grandfather, Richard Brassfield, resides at the Argyle home, and his parents helped with the lease so he would qualify. That address was used to enroll his younger siblings in Argyle ISD, but it is not the main residence they have lived at since moving to Texas. 10’s BACK 🤫 pic.twitter.com/X0J5TVDqtC — Laykon Brassfield (@LaykonBrass10) October 22, 2026 On the Argyle lease, Laykon's name had been removed as an occupant, but DEC did

Here's the kicker: Plano coach receives surprise visit from Dallas Cowboy Brandon Aubrey
Dallas Cowboys kicker Brandon Aubrey made a special trip home to Plano, surprising head boys soccer coach Tex McCullough with a check for $5,000. McCullough was named the winner of Dallas Cowboys Class Acts Award and grant, Oct. 20. Aubrey, a 2013 Plano Senior High School graduate, surprised McCullough in person at an indoor gym on campus. The pair then walked the halls reliving old memories. “I wouldn't say I feel like a high schooler again, but things have changed a lot,” Aubrey said. “It's cool to see just how many resources have been put into the school. I think it shows how much the community cares about the kids and wants them to have nice things and have a safe place to learn sports.” Aubrey said his time at Plano Senior High was formative and was the place where he learned he had a professional future in sports. Playing soccer with friends in the old indoor facility renewed his love for the game and pushed him to go further. The wide academic avenues also enabled him to seek out higher education leading him to play soccer and earn a degree in computer science at the University of Notre Dame

Bearcats visit Tigers with district lead on the line
Something will give Friday night. Whitesboro (5-2, 1-1 in District 5-3A Division I) visits Gunter (6-1, 2-0) at 7 p.m. Friday in a matchup with major district implications. A win for the Bearcats could force a four-way tie for the district lead if Pilot Point beats Dallas Life Oak Cliff. That would leave all four teams tied atop the standings with 2-1 records.

Grayson O’Bara always toed the line during his days as a standout wide receiver at Guyer High School. That’s just who O’Bara is. Focusing on doing everything he was supposed to — and doing it to the best of his ability — is how he became an elite player for one of the top programs in the state, not to mention an excellent student who carried a 4.2 GPA in his senior year of high school.

Frisco rallies past Richland for 3rd straight win
FRISCO – The Frisco football team beat Prosper Richland 28-24 in a tightly contested District 4-5A Division II contest Thursday night at Toyota Stadium. Frisco’s J’Siah Watson intercepted a pass on the game’s opening drive and returned it 75 yards for a touchdown to give the Raccoons’ an early 7-0 lead. It was one of four first-quarter turnovers by the visiting Raiders. “Winning the turnover battle against a good team like Richland was going to be a key factor,” said Frisco head coach Jeff Harbert. Following Major Reed’s 40-yard kickoff return, Richland answered with a 25-yard field goal by Gavin Villarreal to make the score 7-3 with just over eight minutes to go in the first quarter. The Raiders (4-4, 2-4) scored two unanswered touchdowns in the second quarter, both on short runs by Nicoy Stewart, to take a 17-7 advantage lead. “From here on out, every game is important because most of us are still in the playoff race,” said Richland head coach Kenneth Gilchrist. Gilchrist, now in his second year at Richland, agreed with Harbert on turning the ball over. “Eliminating fumbles and interceptions is always going to be huge,” he said. “Those early turnovers didn’t help our

Star Local Media’s Athlete of the Week: Plano East's Josh Gordon
The Plano East football team shook off a 10-0 deficit by scoring 24 straight points against Plano on Friday on the way to a 31-17 victory. Senior Josh Gordon played through an illness to lead his team to a key rivalry win over the Wildcats, sparking East's rally with a 52-yard flea flicker touchdown in the second quarter and going on to finish the night having completed 14-of-19 passes for 194 yards and a touchdown, plus 37 rushing yards and another score. SLM: How would you describe how you were feeling physically before and throughout Friday's game, and how did you go about managing the task of having to play through an illness? JG: Before Friday's game, I had a headache as well as getting chills often, and right before the game started, I got nauseous and even threw up on the sideline not knowing if I was going to be able to play at a high level or to the level my coaches and teammates needed me to play at. But during the game, as the adrenaline kicked in, I felt a lot better – still not completely normal, but good enough to know that I would be fine

Plano East’s halftime lead doesn’t hold in loss to Berkner
DALLAS – Christian Hampton accounted for 252 yards of total offense and three touchdowns to lead Richardson Berkner to a 28-17 come-from-behind victory over District 7-6A foe Plano East at Wildcat-Ram Stadium on Friday. The senior quarterback’s 35-yard touchdown pass to Jacob Watson put the Rams up for good at 21-17 with 6:16 left in the game. After a scoreless first quarter, East (5-3, 3-2) took a 7-0 lead on senior Josh Gordon’s four-yard quarterback keeper with 9:12 left in the second quarter. “Josh got injured last year and it put us in a bind,” said Panthers head coach Tony Benedetto. “He’s very athletic and having him back enables us to open up some things.” The Rams answered immediately with a lengthy drive and evened the score 7-7 after Hampton’s first touchdown toss to Watson, this one from 18 yards out with 6:42 remaining in the first half. “Containing Hampton and their play-making receivers was something we talked about,” said Benedetto. “Coach Bryant coaches a good brand of football and they can play with anyone in the district.” Berkner’s ensuing onside kick was recovered by the Panthers, and they capitalized on the favorable field position when sophomore Treyce Seldon capped
