The School Town of Munster is suspending its pursuit of the property that houses the Center for Visual and Performing Arts.

After a comprehensive assessment, the district decided that the town of Munster needs time to evaluate the property and programming needs.

“This decision reflects our commitment to prioritizing responsible and informed decision-making to best serve our community's interests,” the district announced in a press release.

The district conducted an evaluation of the property at 1040 Ridge Road. Factors in the district's decision include:

  • How the property might be used with current infrastructure
  • Whether current programming and services could be maintained
  • Operational costs
  • The district's short- and long-term needs
  • Community input
  • The benefits and negatives that might come with the acquisition

The property is owned by the Community Foundation of Northwest Indiana Inc., which opened the 72,660-square-foot facility in 1989 to support cultural awareness in the Region, according to the CVPA website .

The CVPA is home to the Theatre at the Center, South Shore Arts, the Northwest Indiana Symphony Orchestra and Trama Catering.
