NEW CASTLE, Ind. — A Muncie man is accused of drinking and driving and causing a crash that seriously injured a woman.

Jaydin L. Young, 20, is charged with causing a serious bodily injury accident while operating a vehicle while intoxicated, a Level 5 felony, and criminal recklessness, a Level 6 felony. He also faces two misdemeanor charges.

According to court documents, a Henry County sheriff’s deputy came upon the crash on US 36 just before 2 a.m. on April 14. The deputy noted that the victim’s car was inverted and that the woman had been thrown from her vehicle.

Young was reportedly attempting to assist the injured woman and kept apologizing to her, court documents reveal.

The deputy said the woman had lacerations to her thigh and legs and appeared to be in extreme pain.

Court documents reveal that Young and the victim knew each other and were driving separate cars before Young allegedly caused her to drive off the road and flip her vehicle.

Young was given a breathalyzer at the scene of the accident which revealed his blood alcohol content to be .37%, well above the .08% legal limit.

If convicted, Young could face between one and six years in prison.
