JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ala. ( WIAT ) — A Mulga man has been arrested and charged for the murder of a woman earlier this month.

According to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, patrol deputies performed a welfare check at a residence located in the 200 block of 2nd Avenue in Mulga on April 4 at 10:30 a.m.

Upon entry, deputies found resident Lakechia Byant, 46, laying on the floor and unresponsive, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound . Graysville Fire and Rescue pronounced Bryant dead at the scene. According to the JCSO, Byant was a victim of domestic violence.

A “Be On the Lookout” alert was then given to the Adamsville Police Department, as JCSO believed the suspect, 44-year-old Antonius Bonner, was in the area.
