Fort Smith tax revenue flat through April report
Fort Smith sales tax collections were down again in April, keeping the revenue relatively flat for the year. The April sales tax report shows the city’s share of the 1% Sebastian County sales tax was down almost 2% from April 2023 and the 1% tax for city streets was down 2.5%.

Harps to Break Ground Soon in Chaffee Crossing
According to Moses Tucker Partners, Harps Food Stores will be opening a new location on the Arkansas Colleges of Health Education (ACHE) campus in Fort Smith. The Springdale-based grocery chain chose ±5.5 acres at the corner of Highway 255 and Veteran’s Avenue in Chaffee Crossing, adjacent to the ACHE campus, for its new 40,000-square-foot store. The groundbreaking is expected to take place this summer.
Severe Threat Slices South Yet Again
The severe threat continues again Friday night in the storm-weary South. On Wednesday, a confirmed tornado touchdown in Temple, Texas, along Interstate 35 between Dallas and Austin. NWS Fort Worth gave this tornado a preliminary rating of EF-2 as the survey continued. Thursday, tornado warnings that were confirmed west of Altus, OK, and east of Waco, TX did some damage with slow storm movement. We will be awaiting storm surveys from these storms.
