MT. WASHINGTON CHURCH CELEBRATES 91 YEARS
The town of Mount Washington is nestled in the Berkshires along the Massachusetts/New York border and boasts a population of only 144 people, per the annual town report. But at the start of the summer, the population more than doubles as part-time residents come to bask in the comfort of the mountains for the summer season.
THEN & NOW: Great Barrington Town Hall
Great Barrington Town Hall has been the centerpiece for many celebrations over the decades. The photograph shown above was taken in 1894. It was likely a Decoration Day (now called Memorial Day) ceremony or a Fourth of July celebration. Photographs that follow below feature Civil War veterans and officials at the Winged Victory statue, Great Barrington’s 150th anniversary celebration in 1911, and this year’s Memorial Day ceremony.

Bidwell House: Exploring the History of New England Redware
MONTEREY, Mass. Justin Thomas will speak about the museum's red earthenware collection. These objects will be used to tell stories about red earthenware (and some stoneware) production all over New England, spanning the seventeenth through the early twentieth century. The notion of wares made by the rural country potter during the post-American Revolution period through about 1870 will be also discussed in comparison to the urbanized industries that existed in New England before and after the Revolutionary War.
West Stockbridge should not lift the conditions in The Foundry’s special permit
I attended the numerous special permit hearings for the Foundry in 2022, as well as last Monday night’s West Stockbridge Planning Board meeting. I listened carefully to Amy Brentano’s 15-minute-plus presentation stating that she has complied with all the conditions of the current permit, that no real violations had been found, and, therefore, that the conditions should be removed. I don’t believe that should happen.
