Mount Pleasant is thriving with New Development and Community Growth

MOUNT PLEASANT S.C. (WCBD)– On Wednesday, Mount Pleasant’s Design Review Board voted to bring two additions to the Midtown area: a five-acre entertainment venue called Gather Mount Pleasant and a two-story Ethos gym. Fresh market grocery is also coming from the Bowman Place Shopping Center.

“Our economic growth is booming. People are coming here because it’s a safe community. We have a great quality of life, and people want to spend money and be employed in their community,” said Will Haynie, the mayor of Mount Pleasant.

Council member Gary Santos said having grocery stores and gyms within walking distance will help solve traffic congestion, a significant problem in the Lowcountry.

“This will help the citizens around there be able to walk to the store and the restaurants, and instead of getting in the car and driving, it’s an opportunity for them to enjoy that despite walking, so I think that’s important. We can build businesses around communities where the communities can access them without having to get in the car and drive,” said Santos.

Town Officials told News 2 that it positively impacts residents because it will help save money on commuting miles away for work or traveling for everyday needs.

“By adding larger businesses in town that may be more office oriented. I think it will help service, businesses, food, and retail all drive here in a healthy economic ecosystem, “Matt Brady, the Economic Development Officer for Mount Pleasant.
