College student from Maryland killed in North Carolina days before graduation
A college student from Upper Marlboro, Maryland, was shot and killed in North Carolina just days before his graduation. Police found North Carolina Central University student Myles Gresham shot to death in his car several miles away from campus at an apartment complex near where he lived in Durham Thursday.
NCHSAA meetings conclude with new Big 32 classification for largest schools as they switch to 8 classes
CHAPEL HILL (NCHSAA) – The North Carolina High School Athletic Association’s Board of Directors Spring Meeting concluded on Wednesday, May 1 at the NCHSAA Office in Chapel Hill.The Board of Directors Meeting began on Tuesday, April 30 with a vote to approve the “Big 32″ realignment model recommendation from the Bylaw Task Force Committee. This model would classify the largest 32 schools in the Association into the 8A Classification and the remaining schools would be divided as evenly as possible among classes 1A through 7A. The Task Force Committee had other recommendations, such as a 24-32 team brackets for the 8A Classification; a 32-team bracket for the 2A through 7A Classifications; and a 16-team bracket in the 1A Classification. Additionally, the Committee recommended realigning classifications every two years. However, this is action that must be addressed in an amendment vote by the membership. On Wednesday, the Board of Directors took the following action:

RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — As an area known for its universities, it’s no surprise the Triangle has great healthcare and top hospitals. New safety grades by The Leapfrog Group, which evaluates hospital performance, show that the Raleigh/Cary metro area has the seventh-highest number of hospitals with “A” grades in the country, tying with Charleston/North Charleston, SC with 62.5% of the area’s medical centers receiving top marks.

Man accused of shooting at N.C. deputies to remain in custody
ROBESON COUNTY, N.C. (WMBF) - A federal judge did not set bond for the man accused of opening fire at deputies in North Carolina in September. That’s according to court documents, which show 20-year-old Shawn Locklear appeared before a federal judge in Raleigh for a detention hearing on Tuesday.
