Vikings Stumble Against Cedar Falls and North Scott
DECORAH — The Decorah High School baseball team faced a tough doubleheader on June 8, falling to Cedar Falls and North Scott in back-to-back games. In the first game of the day, Cedar Falls overpowered Decorah with a decisive 10-0 victory in just five innings. Cedar Falls took an early lead with two runs in the first inning. The team capitalized on a strong offensive performance led by Colin Coonradt, who went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Luke DeGabriele and Maddox Strassburg also made significant contributions, each adding two hits and combining for three RBIs.

Former Clutier clerk sentenced to federal prison for stealing from city
The former city clerk for the small Tama County town of Clutier has been sentenced to nearly two years in federal prison for stealing over $100,000 in city funds. Forty-four-year-old Keri Kopriva pleaded guilty to one count of wire fraud last fall. She was Clutier’s city clerk for three years before she was fired in February of 2019. A special investigation by the state auditor’s office found Kopriva paid herself more than was allowed and used the city’s credit card to buy jewelry, clothes, alcohol, and other personal items. Auditors also estimated Kopriva stole $43,000 worth of cash paid on city utility bills.

Pam Thomas joins Gladbrook Lions Club
GLADBROOK – The Gladbrook Lions Club met at Peace Church on May 23. At the meeting new member Pam Thomas was presented her new member certificate and packet. Jeanne Paustian was her sponsor. Pam’s husband, Howard, was a long time Lions member at Juneau, Wisconsin. Pam is pictured with Leroy Thomsen, who is our last living Charter member. The Gladbrook Lions received its Charter in May of 1960. At the meeting the group decided to run the 2024 Corn Carnival bingo on Friday night.
