Adams named Good Neighbor in Godfrey
Resident Joanne Adams was awarded the second ‘Godfrey Good Neighbor Award’ at the June 4th meeting of the board of trustees. Joanne moved to Godfrey in 1997 after her husband, Jim, accepted a job with Jefferson Smurfit. Joanne, who had been quite successful in the corporate world, then chose to retire and transition to volunteer mode, and she’s been doing so at full speed ever since. In 2012, Main Street United Methodist Church started a summer lunch program to address hunger experienced by area children when school is not in session. Joanne was instrumental in developing this program, which was known as Serving Area Kids (SAK). She served as President of the SAK board from 2014 – 2017 and then as Treasurer until she chose to step away last year. In addition to all of the grant writing and fundraising, she also raised awareness and recruited volunteers. The program has served thousands of lunches to underprivileged youth in the area.
