Brrr-ace yourself: Coldest weather of the fall, possible first snow headed for East Idaho
East Idaho could soon experience its coldest weather of the fall season as well as its first snowfall. A low-pressure system, combined with the remnants of Hurricane Rachel, is forecast to bring a significant weather shift to the region starting this weekend. Temperatures throughout East Idaho are expected to plunge, with daytime highs in the 50s and nighttime lows in the 30s. The cold will arrive Saturday night and won’t leave until Wednesday or Thursday of next week, according to the National Weather Service. Significant rain could also arrive starting Saturday evening thanks to Hurricane Rachel, which is currently moving through the Pacific Ocean off the coast of the Baja California Peninsula. The rain could continue until next Wednesday or Thursday, and with temperatures dropping, it could change over to snow in East Idaho’s mountains early next week. While the colder temperatures are a sure thing, there is less certainty about the precipitation, the weather service said. If East Idaho does get its first measurable snow early next week, not much of the white stuff is expected to accumulate. The incoming cold
