OKOLONA, Miss. (WCBI) – Overnight, disturbing conversations between two teachers at Okolona Middle School have surfaced. A student took pictures of text messages reportedly sent back and forth between the two teachers discussing children’s clothing, their parents’ financial hardships, and the sexual relations of another faculty member.

Pawn shop burglary leads to Tupelo arrest
TUPELO – The suspect in the burglary of a Tupelo business could face federal weapons charges as well. Tupelo police responded to Mike’s Pawn on West Main Street on Thursday, May 9, in reference to a business burglary. The responding officers cleared the building and spoke with the business owner. Management reported that two firearms were stolen during the burglary.

Monroe County woman jailed for failed 2021 shoplifting attempt
TUPELO – Tupelo police have arrested an Amory woman who reportedly tried to steal more than $1,250 worth of merchandise from a Tupelo Walmart store three years ago. Gina R. Smith, 36, of David Street, Amory, was arrested May 10 on a capias warrant for attempted felony shoplifting. Smith reportedly tried to leave the North Gloster Walmart in July 2021 with a buggy full of merchandise including plants, two hatchets, lounge pants, boys' underwear, socks, T-shirts, Levi's and Wrangler jeans, phone screen protectors, fishing filet knives, bait and numerous fishing lures.

Shannon man arrested for 2020 Tupelo shooting incident
TUPELO – A man wanted for a 4-year-old shooting case was arrested last week by the Tupelo Police Department. Tupelo officers served a capias warrant Friday May 10 on Charles Everett McPherson, 40 of Vinson Street, Shannon. He was charged with aggravated assault and possession of a weapon by a felon. The charges date back to a March 2020 incident where a man was shot multiple times on Southside Drive.
Late night pursuit leads to felony DUI, fleeing charges
TUPELO – A Pontotoc County man’s attempt to outrun the Tupelo Police Department did not go as well as he had hoped Saturday night. Tupelo police attempted to pull over a car for traffic violations in the Lawndale Drive on the evening of May 11. The driver refused to stop and led officers on a pursuit. When the driver finally ended the pursuit, he jumped out of the vehicle and ran away on foot. Officers took the suspect into custody after a short chase and noticed that he showed signs of impairment. A check of the suspect’s criminal record revealed multiple arrests and convictions for driving under the influence.
