Former mayor is Downtown Mooresville’s ‘Main Street Champion’
May 15. Miles Atkins, the former mayor of Mooresville, was named Downtown Mooresville’s 2023 Main Street Champion by the North Carolina Main Street Program, which works to stimulate economic development within the context of historic preservation across the state. The Champion award is presented annually to individuals who have demonstrated an ongoing commitment to downtown improvements and the betterment of their communities.
Mother of Madalina Cojocari pleads guilty to failing to report her disappearance
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Diana Cojocari, the mother of missing Cornelius girl Madalina Cojocari, pleaded guilty Monday to not reporting her daughter missing back in 2022. Diana Cojocari has been in jail since December 2022, about a month after Madalina was last seen leaving her school bus in Cornelius, North Carolina, which is about 20 miles north of Charlotte in northern Mecklenburg County. Diana Cojocari initially pleaded not guilty to the charge of failing to report her daughter's disappearance, which is a Class 1 felony.
Deputies: 18-year-old accused of having high-powered rifle on Iredell Co. school property
STATESVILLE, N.C. (WBTV) - An 18-year-old was arrested Friday after allegedly having a gun on school property at West Iredell High School. Deputies with the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office said they received information that an individual was possibly headed toward the school with a gun. He was identified as 18-year-old Austin Lee Thomas.
