Vice Adm. Nathan Moore is new Coast Guard Atlantic commander
PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — The U.S. Coast Guard’s Atlantic sector has a new commander. Vice Adm. Nathan Moore officially took over for Vice Adm. Kevin Lunday on Thursday during a change-of-command ceremony at Coast Guard Training Center Yorktown. Coast Guard Commandant Adm. Linda Fagan presided over the ceremony.
Renovation continues on Williamsburg schoolhouse for Black children dating back to 1760
WILLIAMSBURG, Va. — A building that was used as a schoolhouse for Black children from 1760-1774 is being renovated at Colonial Williamsburg. In shops throughout the historic area, tradespeople are busy making replicas to go in the Bray School. Items like nails, locks, and even print material that the children would have used are all in production in Colonial Williamsburg.

Virginia is one of 14 states that offer rental stays in lighthouses—but for DC-area residents looking to own one of these beacons of light, that dream can now be a reality. For $450,000 (in cash), the lighthouse at 0 Smith Point, Rd. in Reedville can be yours. Located on its own island in the Chesapeake Bay, it was built in 1897 and purchased from an auction held by the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) in conjunction with the U.S. Coast Guard in late 2005. The property is part of the National Historic Registry, and the Coast Guard maintains its lamp as an active aid to navigation.

Jeylah Hamrick’s goal at the VISAA Division III State Championships on Friday was to not only win every event she participated in, but also to set meet records.
