    Baseball: Morris/Sussex Top 10 rankings ahead of state tournament

    Final power points have been tallied and it's time for the state tournament.

    Now it's time to shift attention to the NJSIAA playoffs, which get underway on Wednesday for non-public teams and Thursday for public schools.

    Ahead of the playoffs, here are the final Morris/Sussex Top 10 rankings of the regular season.

    10. West Morris (14-11)

    Previous ranking: 10

    The Wolfpack split the week, going 2-2 to stay above the .500 mark heading into the postseason. West Morris dropped games to No. 8 Mount Olive, 10-0, and Hunterdon Central, 1-0, and posted wins in between over Morris Hills, 9-3 and Warren Hills, 11-8.

    Up next : Tuesday at Immaculata

    9. Sparta (13-8)

    Previous ranking: 9

    The Spartans went 3-1 last week with wins over Jefferson, 7-3, and Morris Hills, 15-2 and 4-3. Their only setback was an 8-2 loss against then-No. 8 Mount Olive.

    Up next : Monday at No. 4 Pope John

    8. Chatham (7-11)

    Previous ranking: 7

    Chatham put up a fight against No. 1 Delbarton in the MCT title game, a 3-0 loss last Thursday in Montville. Two days later, the Cougars dropped a 9-6 game to Madison.

    Up next : Monday vs. No. 5 Randolph.

    7. Mendham (11-12)

    Previous ranking: 6

    The Minutemen wrapped up a busy week by playing five games in six days. Mendham picked up wins against Montville, 4-3, Voorhees, 3-2, and Bernards, 5-1, but also suffered back to-back losses to No. 2 Morris Knolls, 8-3, and No. 1 Delbarton, 6-0.

    Up next : Tuesday at Montclair.

    6. Mount Olive (14-9)

    Previous ranking: 8

    The Flanders school moved up two spots following wins over No. 10 West Morris, 10-0, and No. 9 Sparta, 8-2. The Marauders closed out the week with a 5-3 loss against High Point.

    Up next : Monday at Livingston.

    5. Randolph (17-8)

    Previous ranking: 3

    The Rams stretched their losing streak to four straight following back-to-back setbacks to Roxbury, 4-2 and 7-6. They got back in the win column with an impressive 8-1 victory at DePaul last Saturday.

    Up next : Monday at No. 8 Chatham.

    4. Pope John (12-12)

    Previous ranking: 4

    The Lions hit the skids last week when they dropped three in a row to parochial counterparts Delbarton, 9-6, Bergen Catholic, 10-0 and DePaul, 5-3. They salvaged the week by taking an 8-2 victory over Gill St. Bernard's.

    Up next : Monday at Pingry.

    3. Roxbury (13-11)

    Previous ranking: 5

    The Gaels jump up two spots and move above the .500 mark after winning three of four games last week. Roxbury swept then-No. 3 Randolph, 4-2 and 7-6, before sitting down Morristown Beard, 12-2. The Gaels came up short against Montville, 4-3.

    Up next : Monday vs. No. 1 Delbarton; Tuesday at Seton Hall.

    2. Morris Knolls (22-4)

    Previous ranking: 2

    The Golden Eagles went 3-1 last week with dominant wins over Morris Hills, 22-1, Mendham, 8-3, and Bloomfield, 10-0. They suffered an 8-1 home loss to Don Bosco.

    Up next : Saturday at Seton Hall.

    1. Delbarton (23-2)

    Previous ranking: 1

    The Green Wave claimed their fifth straight MCT title and sixth in the last seven years when they shut out Chatham, 3-0, last Thursday night. The Morris Township school added four more wins last week and extended its streak to 11 with wins against Pope John, 9-6, Mendham, 6-0, and Malvern Prep, 2-1.

    Up next : Monday at No. 3 Roxbury; Thursday vs. Gloucester Catholic; Saturday vs. Immaculata.

    Also considered : Madison (16-7); Pequannock (16-8); High Point (17-6).
