MnDOT crews prepare for Interstate 94 Gap project
ST. CLOUD — The Minnesota Department of Transportation is excited to announce the start of the three-year expansion of Interstate 94 between Albertville and Monticello, known as the I-94 Gap project, on Monday, July 22. This year, crews will prepare the work zone, which includes temporary lane widening and median crossovers. Motorists will encounter periodic lane closures on both directions of I-94 through fall 2024. The lane closures will occur at off-peak hours, mainly overnights. ...
Sherburne History Center to hold Family Day
BECKER — You won’t want to miss Family Day at the Sherburne History Center on Saturday, July 27 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The annual event will include scavenger hunts; a design-and-fly kite project; music from the band The Crow’s Feet on the patio; inflatables in the parking lot; along with good eats from the Pork Chop Guys food truck and the Brain Freeze ice cream truck. Plans move forward for roundabouts on School Boulevard
MONTICELLO — Plans to construct two roundabouts along School Boulevard — at the heavily trafficked intersections with Cedar Street and Edmonson Avenue — may finally be a step closer toward reality. Monticello’s Riverfest celebration was a great success as usual, thanks to the countless hours hundreds of volunteers put in. We were blessed with beautiful weather when we held the Block Party outside the community center last week. Community Strings Orchestra to play summer concert
MONTICELLO — The Monticello Community Strings Orchestra will be performing its 23rd Annual Summer Concert at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 25 at the Monticello High School Auditorium, located at 5225 School Boulevard. With members that range from 11 to 69 years old, two different community groups — the concert orchestra and symphony orchestra — will be performing a wide variety of musical selections. This summer, the Monticello Community Strings Orchestra will be led under the direction of Michelle Schettler-Stein and Rachel Vannett. This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Central MN Arts Board, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund. Teens, young adults organize ‘Night of Worship’
MONTICELLO — A group of teens and young adults from a trio of local churches has teamed up to lead a “Night of Worship” this coming Friday night, featuring popular contemporary Christian music. The youth-led community event, which is open to those of all ages, will be filled with songs, prayer and reflection beginning at 7 p.m. Friday, July 19 at Resurrection Lutheran Church, 9300 Jason Ave. NE. Participants will be singing popular contemporary Christian songs. The event is free, though any offerings will be given to Special Olympics MN, an organization near and dear to organizers’ hearts. The youth who have been working hard to organize the event are from Resurrection, along with Riverside and ZOE churches.
Creative Coffee Chats series kicks off with renowned speaker
BUFFALO — The Wright County Historical Society (WCHS), a nonprofit committed to serving the community, is launching a new program, Creative Coffee Chats, aimed at combating social isolation and loneliness. The program kicks off on Thursday, July 18 at 6:30 p.m. at the Wright County Historical Society, 2001 Highway 25 North, Buffalo, with a presentation by nationally renowned speaker and motivator Dr. Corey Martin. WCHS’s free Creative Coffee Chats will offer monthly presentations — designed to be fun and informative — followed by an engaging hands-on component and light refreshments. The first shot of “The Bikeriders” is of a man sitting at a bar, his face in shadow while the logo on the back of his leather jacket — “Vandals Chicago,” printed around a skull and crossbones — jumps out at us.
