TOTW: Heritage Patriots Baseball

MONROEVILLE, Ind. (WANE) – Death, taxes and Dean Lehrman coaching Heritage baseball.

Those are the certainties in life out in Monroeville and the Patriots’ baseball program.

For 45 seasons, Lehrman has led Heritage as one of the better programs in the Hoosier state. The Indiana Baseball Hall of Fame inductee once again has Heritage off to a hot start with a 7-1 record, including a marquee win over SAC contender Bishop Dwenger.

Heritage is relying on several returners from a team that reached last year’s 3A semi-state title game. Landon Lybarger and Thomson Keppel lead Heritage at the plate with seven RBI apiece.

Defensively, Noah Redmon and Keppel are solid on the mound this season. Redmon is 2-0 with an ERA of 0.93 and a team-high 28 strikeouts. Keppel is 3-0 in plate appearances with 22 strikeouts.

Heritage looks to keep rolling as they begin ACAC play on Tuesday. The Patriots visit South Adams on Tuesday and host Southern Wells on Thursday. That sandwiches a non-conference game with Bishop Luers on Wednesday.
