The Molalla boys volleyball team swept Estacada on Wednesday, April 24, at home to move to 4-1 on the year.

The team opened its season with three straight victories over Western Christian, McNary and Grand View Christian before losing to Silverton on Monday, April 22. It's not a bad start for a program only in its second year of existence and first as an 'emerging activity' under the OSAA, which the ultimate purpose is to, "grow meaningful interscholastic participation opportunities for students in athletics and activities that have the potential to meet the required number of schools participating to be considered for official sanctioning by the OSAA."

"It's awesome," senior libero Ben Suarez said. "I love volleyball bring integrated into the schools now. I think a lot of boys are very capable of playing volleyball and it's just a talent that a lot of people have."

"Having the sports and athletics expanded — adding volleyball — it's such a great thing," senior outside hitter Jayden Nguyen added. "Having (it) shows that there is a lot of people that do love volleyball."

Molalla's next match will be at home against Damascus Christian (5-1) on Tuesday, April 30.

Baseball

Molalla snapped a four-game losing streak and returned to .500 in league play on Wednesday afternoon, utilizing a five-run fifth inning to outlast Gladstone 6-3.

Camdyn Morey, Kolton Buys and Mason Mead added one hit and RBI. Morey started on the bump, surrendering three runs on three hits over six and two-thirds innings, striking out six and walking three.
