A 49-year-old Modesto woman was killed when she was struck by an Amtrak train on Sunday night, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The woman was riding a BMX bicycle west on Highway 132, just west of E Street when for “unknown reasons” she rode around the crossing arms that blocked the highway’s intersection with the railroad, read CHP’s collision report.

She crossed the railroad as the train approached, which collided with her. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

No one else was injured during the collision. Highway 132 remained open during the investigation. Railways experienced “some delays during the investigation,” read the release.

The woman’s identity had not been released as of Monday morning, pending notification of her next-of-kin.
