Gardner-Webb University announces Dean’s List recipients
BOILING SPRINGS — Benjamin Simpson of Yadkinville was named to the Gardner-Webb University Dean’s List for the 2024 spring semester. Benjamin is a senior majoring in criminal justice with a double minor in homeland security and human services. The Dean’s List is composed of undergraduate college students enrolled in a minimum of 12 semester hours must earn a 3.70 to a 3.99 Gardner-Webb University semester grade point average, with no grade below a “C”. The National Dean’s List was established in 1978, as a way to recognize excellent academic achievement by college students. The University commends Simpson for this significant scholastic achievement in higher education.

Cleveland, NC man wins first $1 million prize in new scratch-off game
ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. — After taking a chance on a $10 scratch-off ticket, Jonathan Ramsey of Cleveland won the first $1 million prize in a new lottery game. Ramsey bought the lucky Loteria ticket from Community Grocery on Statesville Boulevard in Cleveland. He had the choice between annuity that would've given him $50,000 every year for 20 years or a lump sum of $600,000. He chose the lump sum and went home with $429,003 after required state and federal tax withholdings.
