BOPU announces lane closure for water main replacement project
CHEYENNE – The city of Cheyenne Board of Public Utilities anticipates construction activities to begin next week on a water main replacement project, including a closure of the westbound lane of East 19th Street from Rayor Avenue through Albany Avenue. Construction on this project and road closures are expected for approximately six weeks, depending on weather and material availability. Upon completion of East 19th Street from Rayor Avenue to Albany Avenue, Aztec Construction will begin work from Albany Avenue to Converse Avenue. This portion of work is expected to last into November. BOPU will work to keep homes and businesses accessible; however, vehicles should not be parked in the right of way within the work zone between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, and Saturdays on occasion. This area will be clearly marked. Direct access to driveways may not be possible for short periods of time during construction. In these cases, BOPU asks residents to park safely in areas away from the work zone. Water shutoffs will be coordinated, but unfortunately unplanned emergency shutoffs may occur. This project will advance water service reliability for the area and is part of BOPU’s initiative to accelerate the renewal of water

Storsve on Highway 85: Prioritize Black Hills Beauty over Speed and Profit
Black Hills native Harold Storsve says the state’s proposed renovation of Highway 85 southwest from Cheyenne Crossing to the Wyoming border is motivated by the lust for quick bucks. In a letter submitted at the end of the Department of Transportation’s extended public comment period last week, Storsve asks the DOT to minimize its alteration of the road and value the Hills for what they are, not for the money that can be wrung from them:

Council to spend $186,500 studying safety improvements for Cheyenne roundabout
CHEYENNE — Members of the Cheyenne City Council have approved a $186,500 professional services agreement to study and develop operational modifications for the roundabout at Pershing Boulevard, Converse Avenue and East 19th Street in an effort to increase safety. The agreement with Ardurra Group Inc. passed at the council’s meeting Monday, despite receiving no recommendation from the Finance Committee the Tuesday prior, when a motion to approve was split between committee members. According to the agenda item’s supporting document , the Converse Avenue/Pershing Boulevard/19th Street roundabout was completed in December 2013 to replace the former layout, which had 125 collisions in the five-year period reviewed for the Alternatives Analysis prepared in 2006. The newly approved Ardurra Group agreement will add to a 2019 study conducted by MTJ Engineering after the city identified a high number of collisions at the roundabout. “We did that (study) in 2019, when I first came into my position,” City Engineer Tom Cobb said at Monday’s meeting. “The former city traffic engineer had found that we were having an extensive amount of PDO accidents, so property damage (only) accidents. Injury accidents were way down, but we still had an extraordinary number of these PDO accidents.” The
