Rule changes coming to high school basketball this winter
BILLINGS--The National Federation of High School Associations, high school basketball's national governing body, has announced rule changes nationwide for next winter. The changes involve replacing the one and one free-throw with shooting two free throws any time a team reaches five fouls in a quarter. It eliminates the distinction between the bonus and double-bonus, and just moves to shooting two free throws at five fouls. The fouls will reset at the end of the quarter, rather than the end of the half.
University of Montana Football Game Promos are Here!
It's never too early to get hyped about Griz Football, and the Grizzlies on the gridiron are ramping the hype meter up this week by making the headlines. First, Junior Wide Out/Punt Returner Junior Bergen was named to the Athlon Preseason FCS All-America Team (congrats Junior). Then, it was announced that Montana/Idaho's "Battle for the Little Brown Stein" game will air on ESPN. It's just one of two Big Sky Conference games slated to air nationally according to the Big Sky Conference offices. Finally, the University's Sports Information Department unveiled the 2023 Promotional Schedule.
University of Montana Griz Athletes Get the Grades
The University of Montana winter athletics teams performed well on the court and on the track this season, but they also killed it in the classroom. This week the Big Sky offices announced its All-Academic Team and honored 53 Griz athletes. The indoor track & field teams combined for 37 All-Academic team members and the Griz and Lady Griz basketball teams combined for 16 selections.
Recruiting roundup: Montana Grizzlies receive commitment, extend several offers
The Montana Grizzlies football team received a commitment from Cooper Wilson, a defensive back and wide receiver from Bonney Lake, Washington, on May 31. Wilson is a late addition to the 2023 high school recruiting class. He's being recruited as an athlete, according to the commitment graphic he shared on Twitter. He's listed at 6-foot-3 and 190 pounds.

Florence boys track team is Class B runner up
The Florence boys took 2nd at the Class B track & field meet in Butte on May 25-27. William Wagner had an excellent overall tournament, winning the State Championship in the 400m (50.19). He also took 2nd in the 100m (11.17) and the 200m (22.53), and 3rd in the high jump (6-00). Kyler Harris won the State Champion in the 3200m (9:50.37) and took 4th in the 1600m (4:34.85). Quinn Lue took 4th in the High Jump (5-10). The 4x100m relay team of Riley Reeves, Isaac Bates, Logan Williams, and William Wagner took 4th (44.69). And the 4x400m relay team of Pat Duchien, Riley Reeves, Isaac Bates, and William Wagner took 4th (3:34.94). For the Florence girls, Trista Williams took 5th in the shot put (36-01.75).
