A new bar in Riverwest is looking to attract an older crowd to a spot that will be filled with antique items and might have an older age minimum than most local bars.

Owner Jimmy Simms is planning to open Old Time Sake at 2221 N. Humboldt Ave., where the age minimum might be as old as 30, and it will be filled with old-time memorabilia.

"I thought I might as well do a vintage look in here," Simms said. "I have everything I need, like an old phone booth, a lot of old art that I'm putting in there."

Simms has been in the service industry for 20 years and has worked at various places around Milwaukee, including On The Rocks, which was previously at 634 W. North Ave., and a bar named Brickhouse in Texas.

Other decor will include old cameras from the 1940s, milk jugs and a 13-star United States flag.

To help preserve the older artifacts, Simms is considering an older minimum age than 21, the minimum age for people to consume alcohol according to state law. He said that he might have a minimum age requirement of 25 or 30.

"I don't want to deal with the young crowd tearing up the stuff, and I want to cater more to an older crowd so I'm going for like 30 and up," he said.

He plans to open the bar in May.
