Long-running Berkeley grocery store Market Hall Foods announced Tuesday that it plans to close its doors permanently on Sunday, May 26, East Bay Nosh reports. The store held down a corner location on Fourth Street for more than two decades, opening in 1996 and selling deli food, cheese, pasta, and other pantry goods. Meanwhile, the store’s Rockridge location at 5655 College Avenue will remain open. “All of us in the leadership group have come to believe that we will have more options for success by concentrating on our flagship store at Rockridge Market Hall,” co-owner Sara Wilson says in a statement.

Okay, stick with me here: The name may sound mundane, but this little crunch salad from Cambridge darling Talulla is anything but boring. It’s a collection of start-of-spring vegetables — radishes, snow peas, and snap peas — mixed together with tangy slivers of kumquat and topped off with a dollop of a savory whey sorbet. (I’ve never been served sorbet as a salad component before, and I’m now 100 percent sold on the idea.) The whole concoction tasted like a tiny little explosion of creativity on the plate that I was so grateful for after months of grey, dark, sleepy winter meals.
