Kay Collects Maquoketa Accolades
MAQUOKETA, Iowa — Justin Kay romped from ninth starting position to win Saturday’s Malvern Bank East Series late model feature at Maquoketa Speedway. Kay passed Andy Eckrich for the lead and paced the final seven laps to pick up the $3,000 winner’s check for his 10th career victory in the touring series.
North Linn coach Mike Hilmer leaves behind big legacy
COGGON, Iowa (KCRG) - It was a surprise when North Linn basketball coach Mike Hilmer decided to leave the Lynx to become the new superintendent at Bellevue. What a legacy Mike left behind after 33 years of coaching and 525 wins. Hilmer led the Lynx to a 234-9 record in the last 9 years. That run included 7 straight trips to the title game, winning three state championships.

The West Liberty boys’ soccer team dominated Bellevue before getting their revenge on Tipton last week to advance to their fifth straight state tournament. After dominating Bellevue 6-1 in the substate semifinal round, the Comets matched up against Tipton for a rematch from an earlier season matchup that saw the Tigers best the Comets.
Maquoketa soccer star Cameron Tracy wins Spotlight Athlete of the Week
DAVENPORT, Iowa (KWQC) - Maquoketa soccer star Cameron Tracy was voted TV6 Spotlight Athlete of the Week after leading the Cardinals in goals this season. “The biggest thing is the group of people I’m around this year and it’s a lot of energy it just really brings the spirit up because historically we haven’t been the greatest during my high school career and this year we really just got the energy up” said Tracy.
