STOWE, Vt. (WCAX) - A sign of the season -- Smugglers’ Notch is now open to drivers. VTrans says scenic Route 108 officially opened at noon Tuesday. Newbury, VT- A Newbury man is facing assault charges after police say he attacked firefighters while they were putting out a fire at his home on Tuesday. Police say Edward Rose, 33, was trying to hit Wells River firefighters with a stick while they were responding to a fire at his home around 10:15 p.m. Rose was arrested and cited to be in court on June 19 for assault on a protected professional.
