Father of 4 gunned down in SW Miami-Dade 02:22

MIAMI - Miami-Dade police are investigating a shooting that took the life of a father of four Thursday afternoon in Southwest Miami-Dade.

Police said the victim was washing a car shortly after 2 p.m., in front of an apartment complex at SW 216th Street and 113th  Avenue, when someone shot him.

The man, identified by a friend as Sleepy Brown, died at the scene.

Neighbors tell CBS News Miami's Peter D'Oench that Brown washed cars for a living and was also a DJ.

Brown was the father of three girls and one boy.

A Shot Spotter alert directed MDPD units to the area, where investigators continued to comb for clues.

A close friend tells us Brown was 42 of 43 years old.

Darrell Collins, a friend of the victim, said "I got a phone call and was told one of my best friends got shot."

"This is very, very upsetting. This man did not do anything to anyone to deserve to get shot like that in broad daylight."

"I couldn't believe it because Sleepy Brown... he doesn't do anything wrong to anyone. He is a father. He just take care of kids and washed cars and was a DJ."

Two witnesses told us Brown was caught in a crossfire between at least 2 other people, but police have not confirmed that. Friends say Brown lived at the complex.

The shooting is troubling for Romania Dukes, the founder of Mothers Fighting for Justice.

"Enough is enough. This is happening every day or every other day and we have got to come together and stick together and find a way to put an end to all these shootings that are occurring in Goulds, Perrine, Florida City and Homestead. It all has to stop and will only stop if you speak up and say something."

Dukes lost her 18-year-old son to gun violence back in July of 2014, in a case that remains unsolved.

Miami-Dade police have not said if they have identified any suspects.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (305) 471-8477 or (305) 471-TIPS.
