This year’s first cases of West Nile in mosquitos reported in 2 Illinois counties
Mosquitos in Cook County and Morgan County in Illinois have tested positive for West Nile virus, according to the Illinois Department of Public Health. IDPH released a statement Friday that said one of the batches to test positive was collected in Hoffman Estates, Illinois on May 14. A second batch was collected in Jacksonville, Illinois.

Barry couple’s daughter first baby born at Blessing after start of Dogwood Festival
QUINCY — Lillian Grey Simmerman, newborn daughter of Shelly and Luke Simmerman of Barry, is this year’s Quincy Dogwood Festival baby. She earned the honor of being the first baby born at Blessing Hospital after the start of the 2024 Dogwood Festival. Lillian was born at 7:07 p.m. on Friday, May 3.
