Maroons sweep Eagles on consecutive days

MENOMINEE — The Menominee High School baseball team broke out the brooms for a two-game sweep of Stephenson on Thursday and Friday.

Menominee kicked matters off with an 8-1 victory over the Eagles in Stephenson on Thursday before wrapping up the sweep with a 14-4 blowout win in game two at Spies Field on Friday.

Friday saw the Maroons overcome an early 1-0 deficit after Gable Buck blasted a two-RBI single while Garrett Carlson tacked on a ribbie of his own to give Menominee a 3-1 edge.

Cam Gauthier drove in a pair of runs in the bottom of the second inning as Menominee’s lead swelled to five before Torin Davis hit a sacrifice fly to score Landan Bardowski and make it a 6-3 game in the bottom of the fourth.

Aiden Sevon added an RBI-single in Menominee’s half of the fifth before the Maroons plated six runs in the bottom of the sixth to seal the deal.

Gauthier finished with four RBIs on Friday. Bardowski went 2-for-3 with a walk and three stolen bases.

Carlson was the winning pitcher on Friday with two hits, three walks and three runs (two earned) in four innings of work. He collected eight strikeouts in the process.

Menominee opened Thursday’s action with a 2-0 lead after Bardowski scored on a balk and Davis crossed home plate thanks to an RBI from Gauthier. Carlson and Drew Olsen both scored on errors in the top of the third.

Buck picked up the win on the mound with five innings pitched, one hit and one walk allowed alongside eight punchouts.
