Mendon, Marcellus softball teams win twice on Monday

MENDON - The Mendon softball team won again on Monday afternoon. The Hornets improved to 7-0 on the campaign with a sweep of visiting Galesburg-Augusta.

The first game saw Mendon win 22-1. The Hornets scored 21 runs in the second inning alone in the three-inning game. Mendon won 26-0 in the second game. The Hornets have now out-scored their opponents 94-12 this season.

Mendon finished with just eight hits in the game and drew 14 walks. Both Kaidee Gonser and Jadyn Samson connected for two hits and drove in four runs each.

Taya Bingaman, Brielle Bailey and Ally Butler each had a base hit and an RBI. Cienna Nightingale had a base hit and two runs driven in. Ally Butler drew three walks in the game.

Rowan Allen picked up the win inside the circle, striking out nine. She allowed just one hit.

Ally Butler won the second game with four strikeouts in three innings.

Samson hit a single, double and a triple while Gonser had a single and a double. Bailey had two doubles, Ally Butler collected two singles. Allen, Bingaman, Nightingale and Abby Butler each had a base hit as well.

Marcellus sweeps White Pigeon

The Marcellus softball team beat White Pigeon twice on Monday, 10-0 and 16-13.

In the opener, Marcellus plated four in the first, plus three more in the second and seventh innings.

Clare Flory clubbed four hits, driving in four runs total. Layni Heuring and Addie Curtis each finished with two hits and Carlyn Deer collected a pair of hits and two RBIs.

Heuring picked up the win with six strikeouts.

White Pigeon collected five hits, led by Hannah Eckert with two. Rachel Byler, Layla Abner and Emily Miller each had one as well.

In the second game, White Pigeon scored nine runs in the second inning and led 13-8 after four innings. Marcellus then scored six in the fifth and two more in the seventh to earn the win.

Heuring and Aubree Kruger each had four hits, they drove in five combined runs. Makynna Harrison collected three hits, Curtis and Mackenzie Schuur each had two hits. Flory, Abby Tone and Deer each had one hit and one RBI.

Emily Barton had two hits for the Chiefs in that one. Rachel Byler, Eckert, Cali Raley and Kadance Smith all had one hit and two RBIs. Mable Post and Madison Cavasos each had a run-scoring hit while Miller and Abner were each credited with an RBI.
