BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — History and modernity have come together in an East Boston firehouse from the mid-1800s which has been renovated into two modern condominiums. The firehouse, located at 64 Marion St., became the location for Engine Company 5 on September 1, 1860, and Engine 5 remained there until 1938 when they moved to 360 Saratoga St., which is where they are today.

FRAMINGHAM — Statistics on the cost of housing in MetroWest are grim, with state officials searching for ways to make it more affordable to live here. "In 1991, the median sale price of a home in the Boston area was $63,900, and you could rent an apartment for less than $740 a month, right here in Framingham," Massachusetts Secretary of Housing and Livable Communities Edward Augustus said. "Today that $63,900 home is selling for around $900,000, and rent is more than $3,200 a month — and that is even if you're lucky enough to afford a place to rent."
