I'm picky with Mediterranean restaurants. This one is a happy surprise
When I read about Noor Mediterranean, I was part-intrigued, part-skeptical. Mediterranean menus have been popping up all over metro Phoenix. Sadly, the last few places that advertised themselves as such left me disappointed. Ultimately, professional and personal curiosity prevailed. Reservations for indoor seating at Noor are hard to come by on weekends, so I settled for outdoors. Though I’d seen photos and videos on Instagram, I still didn’t quite know what to expect. As the host walked my parents and me to our table, I could see the airy dining room, which opened onto the outdoor space, featuring modern decor — a mix of birch and walnut wood, greenery along with macrame and wicker chandeliers. The bartenders slung drinks at the indoor-outdoor bar. The room’s focal point, a hexagonal inlaid marble mosaic fountain, gently bubbled under a lit faux olive tree. A mural of a Syrian courtyard featured the same fountain in its center. Once seated, we spotted another fountain outside. According to owner Wael Yaziji, the fountains had an arduous trip due to the strained relationship of U.S. and Syria at the time of import. Arizona Italian restaurant opening new location for 'loyal customers'
One of the most popular gluten-free, allergen-friendly restaurants in Arizona is opening its seventh location in March. Picazzo's Healthy Italian Kitchen will open its newest location on Happy Valley Road in Glendale. The new restaurant will occupy 2,000 square feet of space and include both indoor and outdoor seating. Picazzo's had been seeking a new West Valley location for some time, said managing partner Chris Disney in a news release. “It’s a testament to our dedicated team and our loyal customers that Picazzo’s continues to evolve and grow — nearly 23 years after opening the doors to our first location in Sedona,” Disney said in a news release. The first Picazzo's opened over two decades ago in Sedona and has since expanded throughout the Valley, including locations in Scottsdale, Tempe, Paradise Valley, Gilbert and Glendale. What's on the menu at Picazzo's? Picazzo's Healthy Italian Kitchen offers pizzas, pastas, salads, soups and small plates. Menu highlights include hot honey fig and salami pizza, cheese bread, baked wings, barbecue chicken pizza, vegan Beyond Sausage and pesto rigatoni and the signature "vortex" pizza topped with Italian sausage, salami, pepperoni, mushrooms, black olives, roasted red bell peppers and caramelized onions.
