SPOKANE, Wash - A Mead teenager who showed strength and courage during a battle with a rare form of cancer died Tuesday morning, his family shared on Facebook.

Grant Carroll fought for 10 months against liver cancer.

He was featured on 4 News Now earlier this year when he was able to take the wrestling mat one last time.

Doctors diagnosed Carroll with cancer last June, just days before his 17th birthday.

In the time since, he underwent extensive surgeries to remove part of his liver and more than 100 lymph nodes, but it wasn't enough to rid his body of cancer.

"His long, hard battle with cancer was waged with the strength I have never seen before," his family wrote on Facebook Tuesday morning. "He was the best. And we will miss him our entire lives. Rest now, my buddy - you deserve peace finally. You are so loved."
