McKenzie boys basketball has its new coach.

Justin Lowery was announced as the Rebels' new coach, the school announced on social media Tuesday.

Lowery has spent the last 12 seasons at Gibson County, leading the Pioneers' boys team. He went 157-186 and led the team to its first sectional game in 30 years in 2022 and went back again in 2023. The Pioneers went 12-15 this season, ending with an opening-round loss to Milan in the district tournament.

Lowery is replacing John Wilkins, who accepted the girls basketball position at Brentwood Academy on April 4. Wilkins had coached the Rebels' boys program for 11 seasons before adding the girls coaching role in 2020. Wilkins led the Lady Rebels to two TSSAA state championships and coached a two-time Miss Basketball winner in Savannah Davis.

Lowery has experience coaching tennis, cross country, golf and volleyball. As a player at Bradford, Lowery is a member of the Gibson County Sports Hall of Fame.
