Bike Bus inspires joy at Garden Lakes
The air was cool as the sun rose over the parking lot of Trinity Christian Church, illuminating dozens of parents, teachers and kids about to embark on Garden Lakes Elementary School’s second roll out of its bike bus. The school launched the bike bus event last year, in partnership with TRED, as a way to encourage a healthy lifestyle and give students a fun start to their day. On a bike bus, students ride their bikes to school while their families walk or ride alongside them. Much like the first ride last October, the students were all smiles when they pulled up to the school Friday. “I’m certain you see more smiles on the bike bus than you’ll see in the car rider line,” said Harry Brock, TRED president and city commissioner. The morning began with students and members of the community gathered at the church so TRED could check that the bikes — or scooters and skates — were safe to ride and every child had a helmet. Once properly outfitted for their trip, the group kicked off and riders began their commute to school on two wheels, occasionally adding more students to the herd, riding down residential streets
