Unemployment in Idaho raises recession concerns
BOISE, Idaho — As we reported recently, unemployment is higher in Idaho than it's been in almost two years. It's at 3%. That number is still preliminary, so it could be adjusted. But right now, unemployment is up 0.2% from just a month ago. We’re nowhere near where unemployment was during the great recession, at more than 9% for the state and 24% in Idaho's hardest hit county, Adams County. Compared to that, we're on easy street. But it still looks like we're headed in the wrong direction.
McCall shop put waterskis on the roof. Officials say they like them – but they still must come down
Waterskis line the roof of a recently opened souvenir shop in McCall, but safety concerns and code led to city officials ordering them to be taken down. The building at 200 Lenora St. was once occupied by McCall Pet Outfitters and Supply, but more recently, Laketown Shore Shop took over. Owner Cade Huskinson wanted to carry the McCall-themed inside of the store to the outside of the building as well and did so by lining the roof with waterskis.
Controlled Burns Continue at Collier's Peak
The U.S. Forest Service has informed residents near Cascade to expect potential smoke from southeast Collier's Peak. The smoke is a result of controlled burns happening over the coming days. Depending on the weather and fire behavior, these scheduled burns are likely to continue over the weekend and into next week's initial days. The Forest Service has reassured residents that there is no cause for alarm if they notice the smoke.
Plan could build 50 homes in Downtown McCall
A developer has sights on two pieces of land off 1st Street in McCall that would bring over 50 high-priced homes. During Tuesday’s McCall Planning and Zoning Commission meeting, city officials heard two applications from the developer Plantation Homes for property off 1st St, to the west of Cafe 6 Three 4.
Planned outage for McCall stations on Thursday, Sept. 21
Boise State Public Radio's signals in McCall will be off-air on Thursday, Sept. 21 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. because of a planned power outage. Transmissions on KBSK (89.9), KBSQ (90.7) and KBSM (91.7) will be out during that time. Idaho Power is performing maintenance and will take down power feeding the top of Brundage Mountain.

A noticeable drop in temperature occurred in Treasure Valley, Idaho, on Tuesday. Residents saw the weather cool from the mid-80s to a current 68 degrees, with a breeze from the West and midday clouds. The high for the day reached 77 degrees, but colder weather is in forecast for the region. Temperatures around 65 degrees are predicted, especially in McCall, with winds increasing up to 15 mph and gusting to 20 near higher elevations.
