La Plaza Mall hosts Go Green event

MCALLEN, Texas ( ValleyCentral ) — La Plaza Mall alongside the City of McAllen hosted the Go Green event in honor of Earth Day.

The environmental awareness campaign happened on Saturday, where shoppers learned about the McAllen Shines Program.

“We want to highlight our partnership with the City of McAllen and our in-house recycling program,” said Isabel Rodriguez, marketing director for La Plaza Mall.

Avril Paz, recycling education coordinator with the City of McAllen said, their main goal is to educate the community on better recycling practices.

She added that good recycling practices are not the only thing that helps the world become a better place.

“We also have the water department, teaching us about water conservation, among other partnerships that will teach us how to use and reuse,” Paz said.

Attendees were granted complimentary Starbucks drinks, learned how to make bath bombs, and visited environmentally friendly vendors.
