A mild, wet Friday; warming into the 80s for Indy 500 qualifying this weekend
On the average May is the second wettest month of the year for Indianapolis. We average 4.75″ of rain for the month and we’ve had almost three inches of rain so far this month. One to three inches of rain has fallen across most of central Indiana this week and minor flooding has already started.
Foggy start, looking decent for Quals this weekend
It’s no secret that May is an active one on average. It’s the second wettest month annually for the City of Indianapolis with 4.75″ of rain on average. The last two days in Indianapolis had just under 2.0″ of rain with higher reports in some spots. We started the month in a rain deficit, now we are in a surplus JUST from the two days of heavy rain.

JACKSON, GRIMES ADVANCE TO TRACK REGIONAL AFTER 1-2 FINISH IN SHOT PUT, DISCUS
Senior Emarie Jackson and junior Olivia Grimes both advanced to next week’s girls track and field regional at Shelbyville after a 1-2 finish in the shot put and discus in Wednesday’s IHSAA Sectional 24 at East Central. Jackson earned a sectional championship and set new sectional and stadium records with a shot put throw of 50-2.25 and a discus throw of 156-4. Grimes finished second in the shot put with a throw of 39-8 and a discus throw of 125-6. Both advance to the Shelbyville regional on Tuesday, May 21 at 6 p.m. Tickets for the regional are available at this link: https://public.eventlink.com/tickets?t=81388 As a team, the Pirates finished fifth out of 13 schools. East Central won the team scoring portion of the sectional. Other notable finishes for the Pirates include Carmin Rippenger, who finished fourth in the 1600m and fifth in the 3200m.
