Sister Act! Salinas Scrapper Sisters Both in Pro Categories for Charlotte
For the first time in their careers, sisters Jasmine Salinas and Jianna Evaristo will be competing together in the pro ranks as the NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series comes to North Carolina for the NHRA Four-Wide Nationals at zMAX Dragway just outside of Charlotte. Because Jasmine began her Top Fuel rookie season in Pomona and with Pro Stock Motorcycle only now resuming after the season opener, this will be the first time for the sisters to race in the same event as professionals.

Charlotte hires Tomekia Reed as women's coach after highly successful tenure at HBCU Jackson State
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Charlotte announced the hiring of Tomekia Reed as women’s basketball coach on Thursday after she helped Jackson State win five consecutive Southwestern Athletic Conference championships during a highly successful six-year tenure with the Tigers. Reed was named the SWAC’s top coach four times from 2020-24 along with being a three-time national coach of the year for historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs) at JSU, which won consecutive SWAC Tournament titles in 2021 and ’22 among three overall. Charlotte Chancellor Sharon L. Gerber called Reed one of college basketball’s most talented young coaches in a post on the school’s athletics web site and added, “Throughout her career, she has demonstrated a strong commitment to excellence, both on and off the court.” Reed will be introduced by the first-year American Athletic Conference school on Monday. Reed is 125-54 lifetime as a head coach including 95-10 in conference play, with three consecutive seasons of 20-plus wins. She began as JSU’s recruiting coordinator in 2006 and held the same job at Louisiana. Reed has also worked at Southern Mississippi, Louisiana Tech and New Orleans after beginning her head coaching career at Hinds (Mississippi) Community College, her alma mater.
