One woman charged after one-year-old nearly drowns in pool

BERKELEY COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – One woman has been charged after her one-year-old child nearly drowned.

According to the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Department, investigators have charged Shannon Heinbuch with felony Child Neglect Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury after her one-year-old son almost drowned in a pool on April 14th.

The incident occurred at Heinbuch’s residence on Talbott Lane in Martinsburg.

Heinbuch found the child unresponsive in the pool. Law enforcement & emergency medical services responded to the residence after 911 was called.

The child was transported to Berkeley Medical Center. He was later flown to Children’s National Hospital in Washington, DC. Investigators spoke with Heinbuch on the evening of the incident and found that she was under the influence of alcohol.

Heinbuch, thirty-four years of age, was arraigned in Magistrate Court after her arrest.

She was unable to post bond and was committed to the Eastern Regional Jail to await a preliminary hearing.

The child is still in the intensive care unit at Children’s National Hospital.
