MARSHFIELD – Katelyn Sternweis struck out 10 in a complete-game effort on the mound and added three hits at the plate as the Marshfield softball team defeated Wausau West 5-3 in a Wisconsin Valley Conference matchup Monday at Madison Field.

The Tigers (4-4 overall) scored four times in the fourth inning to take a 5-0 lead and held off a late rally from Wausau West to grab their second victory in as many WVC games this season.

Sternweis smacked a two-run single, and Taylar Weis had an RBI triple and scored on a groundout by Fischer in the fourth inning to give the Tigers a 5-0 lead.

West scored once in the fifth and made things tight in the seventh, scoring two on a single by Paityn Calmes before Sternweis got her 10th and final strikeout to end the game.

Wausau West will travel to Merrill for another conference game on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
