Submission window open for Whitefish Review
The Whitefish Review literary journal is accepting submissions for its annual humor writing prize, which offers $1,000 to the winning piece. Fiction, non-fiction and poetry will be accepted through Sept. 30. In addition to the prize money, the winner’s work will be published in “Whitefish Review.” The entry fee is $25, a fundraiser for the nonprofit literary journal.TV writer Molly McNearney will serve as the final judge in the contest.“Comedy almost lost Molly to journalism, but Whitefish Review is thankful she knew we need more humor in the world than news,” said Brian Schott, founding editor of the nonprofit literary journal. "Molly has the utmost respect for writers and invites authentic, fearless submissions to the contest."McNearney is co-head writer and executive producer of “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” and the executive producer and writer of the 2024 Oscars. Winds push out sunny weather making way for a dry, cloudy evening and precipitation on Sunday
Wind gusts in western Montana were milder today in west-central Montana, with gusts to 20 mph in Helena and Missoula. Areas like Kalispell and Dillon still saw wind gusts to 30 mph, although no High Wind Advisories are in place for these regions. Winds are forecasted to diminish this evening.
Libby's Beagle reaches state tennis semifinals
Libby's Ryan Beagle is halfway to his quest to bring a state championship home after winning both matches Thursday at the Montana Class A tournament in Kalispell.The junior Logger opened with a 6-0, 6-1, opening round win over Corvallis sophomore Pierce Yaskus. In the quarterfinals, Beagle topped Hardin senior Chase Wells, 6-3, 6-0. Beagle will face Hamilton's Andy Purcell in the semifinals at 8 a.m. Friday at Flathead Valley Community College.Purcell needed three sets in both of his wins to make the semifinals.In the other semifinal, Polson's Torin Ellis faces Hardin junior Jameson Noteboom. Ellis scored straight-set wins in his first two matches while Noteboom did the same.

Whitefish fell in two games at the Montana State Baseball Tournament on Thursday and Friday, May 16-17. The Bulldogs lost a heart-breaker to Belgrade 8-7 on Thursday in Missoula, and then was downed 15-8 by Eureka on Friday.Against Belgrade, Whitefish built a 5-4 lead through six innings.
