Planned Parenthood in Carbondale reports high percentage of out-of-state patients
CARBONDALE, Ill. (KFVS) - Nearly two years since the overturning of Roe vs. Wade, officials at an abortion provider in southern Illinois are reporting record numbers of out-of-state patients. According to Officials at Planned Parenthood in Carbondale, more than 90 percent of their abortion patients are from out of state.

An alumnus of the SIU aviation program is helping train Naval warfighters
A graduate of the highly regarded SIU-Carbondale aviation management program is serving with the next generation of U.S. Naval aviation warfighters. The Navy Office of Community Outreach reports Lt. John Adolf serves as an instructor pilot assigned to a U.S. Navy strike jet training squadron located at Naval Air Station Kingsville, Texas. Adolf graduated from SIU in 2019. He joined the Navy four years ago.
SIU researchers study moral injuries of war, advocate for veterans
A Southern Illinois University Carbondale researcher is leading an effort to change policy and remove barriers to treatment for what are called the invisible wounds of war. Carbondale Receives DOE Communities LEAP Award for Clean Energy and Economic Development
The City of Carbondale has been selected to participate in the Department of Energy's (DOE) Communities Local Energy Action Program (Communities LEAP). In collaboration with the Illinois Social Equity, Equality and Environmental Justice 40 Consortium (ISEE-EJ40) and Southern Illinois University Carbondale (SIUC), Carbondale will join 30 other communities to receive technical assistance focused on clean energy initiatives and economic development.
A Saturday full of Pride in Carbondale
CARBONDALE – The Rainbow Café LGBTQ Center and Southern Illinois Pride Collective have a full day of Pride activities on the schedule for this weekend. The big event is the festival and march. The festival will be at Carbondale’s Washington Square and Town Square Pavilion. Since temperatures on Saturday are expected to be in the low 90s, the Rainbow Café offices will have extra events and serve as a cooling center.
Carbondale Public Library Begins New Bookshelf Mural Celebrating Diversity and Unity
The Carbondale Public Library is thrilled to announce the commencement of a new bookshelf mural on the library's Brush Building, made possible by a Healing Illinois grant. This initiative highlights the library's commitment to "Racial Healing Sustainability," fostering unity and understanding within the community. The mural, set to be completed by the end of this week, features an array of books that celebrate the rich diversity of Carbondale. Library Director Jennifer Robertson expressed gratitude for the grant, stating, "This mural not only beautifies our library but also symbolizes our dedication to inclusivity and community connection." Local artist Maddie Deiters of ThreeLine Art is spearheading the project, with assistance from artist Jamarr McZeke.
