Several important Burnet County, district and municipal elections are scheduled for the May election.

Burnet County Republican Party voters will nominate either Susan Allen or DeAnne Fisher for county tax assessor-collector during the Burnet County Republican Party primary runoff election May 28.

Allen serves now as the county deputy tax-assessor collector. Fisher is the county deputy treasurer.

Both Allen and Fisher have acquired considerdable experience through lengthy service within their respective departments.

Commissioner Pct. 3

Also on May 28, Republican Party supporters will nominate either Homer Will or Chad Collier during the Burnet County Republican Party primary runoff election for county commissioner Pct. 3.

Since no Democratic Party or other party candidate has filed for either county office mentioned above, most likely, the Republican Party primary runoff victor will be sworn in as the next tax-assessor-collector and Pct. 3 commissioner during January 2025.

Marble Falls ISD

The Marble Falls Independent School District trustee election is cancelled. Alex Payson, Place 5; Kevin Naumann, Place 6 and Kevin K. Virdell, Place 7, are certified as unopposed and effectively elected to their respective places.

Cimarron Shores Board

The Cimarron Shores Water Control and Improvement District will hold a "confirmation, directors and maintenance tax election” May 4.

Proposition A. The confirmation of the creation of the Cimarron Shores Water Control and Improvement District.

Directors. Five names will appear on the ballot for confirmation as district directors including, Ramesh Adusumilli, Siva N. Chandu, Venkata Kishore Gadde, Srini Kamana, Ravindra Babu Kongara.

Proposition B. The imposition and levy of a maintenance tax in amount not to exceed $1.20 per $100 of assessed valuation by Cimarron Shores Water Control and Improvement District.

Kingsland MUD

The Kingsland Municipal Utility District Board of Directors May election includes Josh Caropepe, David Travers and Lewis Young running for Place 1. Dianne Wolfington is running unopposed for Place 2.

Water Control District

The Lake LBJ Water Control and Improvement District No. 1 board of directors election is cancelled. Patrick Autry and Scott Westlund are certified as unopposed and effectively elected to the board of directors.

Granite Shoals, Marble Falls and Meadowlakes will hold general elections May 4.

Cottonwood Shores

In Cottonwood Shores, the city council general election is cancelled.

Michael W. Ritchie, Place 1; Cheryl Mott Trinidad, Place 3 and Roger Lee Wayson, Place 5, are certified and unopposed and effectively elected to their respective places.

Granite Shoals

In Granite Shoals, Brian Edwards is running unopposed for city council Place 1; Mike Pfister is unopposed for Place 2; Steve Hougen is unopposed for Place 4 and Catherine Bell and Phil Ort are running for Place 6.

Also in Granite Shoals, several propositions are on the ballot.

Proposition 1. Should the city re-adopt a local sales and use tax at the rate of 1% to provide revenue for maintenance and repair of municipal streets?

Proposition A. Shall article III, section 3.01 of the city charter (Composition) be amended to remove language from the initial adoption of the charter in 2005 regarding the appointment of city council place 5 because that position is now elected?

Proposition B. Shall article III, section 3.05 of the city charter (Vacancies, Forfeiture and Filling of Vacancies) be amended to clarify the process used by city council to elect a mayor pro tem following the appointment to fill the vacancy of the mayor pro tem position?

Proposition C. Shall article III, section 3.06 of the city charter (Powers of the City Council) be amended to modify the powers of city council, to conform with section 4.02 of the charter, which grants the city manager authority to appoint or remove the city secretary, subject to approval of city council, and to amend section 3.06 of the charter to grant the city council authority to eliminate administrative departments, and to perform annual reviews of the city manager, municipal judge(s) and city attorney?

Proposition D. Shall article III, Section 3.07 (Prohibitions) be amended to clarify that council may not dictate the appointment or removal of contractors whom the city manager is authorized to appoint, and to prohibit the mayor or any council member from holding a contractor position with the city for one year after the expiration of their term of office?

Proposition E. Shall article III, section 3.10 of the city charter (Conflicts of Interest) be amended to require the city attorney to make recommendations to city council members with a potential conflict of interest regarding an agenda item?

Proposition F. Shall article IV, section 4.01 of the city charter (City Manager) be amended to modify the city manager’s qualifications, remove the statement that a city manager is preferred but not required to be a resident of the city, and to require the city manager to provide monthly financial updates to the city council?

Proposition G. Shall article IV, section 4.02 of the city charter (City Secretary) be amended to remove language describing the job functions of the city secretary, because the city manager determines these functions pursuant to section 4.01(5) of the charter?

Proposition H. Shall article IV, section 4.03 of the city charter (Municipal Court) be amended to conform the city’s municipal court of record with state law by providing for a presiding municipal judge and one or more associate municipal judges serving four-year terms?

Proposition I. Shall article IV, section 4.04 of the city charter (City Attorney) be amended to require the city attorney to make recommendations to the city council regarding potential conflicts of interest?

Proposition J. Shall article IV, section 4.06 of the city charter (Personnel System) be amended to remove the city secretary from the requirement that the city’s personnel rules must include a plan for an annual evaluation of the city secretary by the city council?

Proposition K. Shall article V, section 5.02 of the city charter (Filing for Office) be amended to add a qualification for candidates for elected city offices that they be a qualified voter within the corporate limits of the city prior to the filing date to run for that office, and remain so while in office, and to also require a city employee to resign from employment with the city after being sworn in to a city elected office?

Proposition L. Shall article V, section 5.04 of the city charter (Official Results) be amended to clean up language addressing tie votes in council elections and the canvass of council elections?

Proposition M. Shall article IX, section 9.02 of the city charter (Duties and Powers) be amended to require the planning and zoning commission to provide reports or presentations to city council on potential costs or financial impacts regarding matters brought before the commission?

Proposition N. Shall article XI, section 11.07 of the city charter (Charter Review Commission) be amended to require an appointed Charter Review Commission to begin its functions by June 1 of the year in which it is formed?

Proposition O. Shall article XI, section 11.08 of the city charter (Submission of Charter to Electors) be amended to comply with state law, which requires that voters be allowed to vote to approve or disapprove any one or more proposed charter amendments without having to approve all of the amendments in a single vote?

Proposition P. Highland Haven

The Highland Haven city council general election is cancelled. Mayor Olan Kelley, Alderpersons Don Hagans and Terry Nuss are certified as unopposed for election and effectively elected to city council.

Marble Falls

In Marble Falls, Griff Morris is running unopposed for city council, Place 1; Lauren Haltom is running unopposed for city council, Place 3 and William D. (Dee) Haddock, John S. Davis and Richard Westerman are running for city council, Place 5.

Meadowlakes

In Meadowlakes, Mark Bentley and Aaron Codispoti are running for mayor, Mike Barry, Don Wheeler are running for city council Place 1, Jerry Drummond and Carolyn Richmond are running for Place 3.
